This penthouse on the boundary of Fortitude Valley and Newstead boasts incredible uninterrupted views of the Brisbane city, Story Bridge, surrounding area and beyond. Clean architectural lines, and vast spaces, make these views a key asset to the apartment.
The lighting design was used to enhance the space and turn the attention inward. We introduced interest and warmth with our lighting design, not just with illumination, but our choice of products which enhanced the interior design in an aesthetic nature.
Small adjustable downlights, which can be pulled out from the ceiling, adjusted and pivoted, are used in the entrance areas. These bringing interest in the space as functional decorative elements and provide excellent flexibility and lighting for art and artifacts.
The vast living space of glazing and terrazzo, called for warmth and softness which we achieved with the use of a glowing diaphanous pendant light, suspended in the corner.
The Dining room called for some Lighting design to enrich the large space which sits adjacent to the open kitchen. A trimless lighting system was used, with adjustable pivotable small spotlights, complementing the entrance spot lights. This system, Junco by Flos, is completely embedded in to the fabric of the architecture, seamlessly plastered in to the ceiling with only the black spot lights visible. Being a unique and unusual sculptural element, Juncos attracts great focus and interest in the dining and kitchen area. It creates a setting for the dining table whilst illuminating and highlighting the table in myriad ways depending on the positions and focus of light.
Our client is very passionate about food and entertains often, engaging with sources of inspirations, and surrounding himself with culinary knowledge. Hence his wish was for a well-lit kitchen. The lighting design is functional, with flexibility with added diming capabilities allowing various scenes and atmospheres to be easily created. We also ensured to highlight some of the interior elements, such as the feature tiled wall to boost its shine and colour.
Other areas of the penthouse also use unique and interesting luminaires and lighting design techniques that engage with the architecture and enhance the interiors of the penthouse.
